Week 4

This week we learnt about postcards and how we write them. We looked at examples on the board first and talked about postcards that children may have seen or sent in the past. We then thought about our trips last week and how we could write a postcard, pretending we were there, to someone at home.

The children did some incredible artwork on the front and these will also be displayed on Fri 11th July as part of our art celebration!

Week 3

This week RF went on their class trips to Knaresborough. Please see tapestry for photos. There will also be a slideshow of these photos at our art celebration on Fri 11th July.

We celebrated a teacher this week for thank a teacher day by making cards for our dinner ladies who serve us yummy lunch every day.

Week 2

This week we have been thinking about sharing in maths. We chose two members of the class to sit in the circle and had someone come out to share objects between them. We were very careful to make sure the groups were even.

Our sand play continued into this week with even more amazing creations!

Summer 2 – Week 1

Having had a lovely half term holiday, the children were excited to be back together enjoying our areas of provision. The children are really enjoying transporting water to the sand area at the moment and making trenches/waterfalls/rivers.

We even had nurse Amy Dale help bandage up our broken bones!

Week 5

This week I went on Year 6 residential on Wednesday morning which was very exciting!

The children have been enjoying one of our favourite 5 reading texts Paper Dolls and have been making and decorating their own.

We have also been reading How To Catch A Star in talk for writing and the children have been creating some simple sentences to go with it.

Week 4

In class we each received a green love heart with a kind message written inside. This was part of mental health week across school.

The children then spent time during the week to make kind notes for each other. We took time to reflect and make space for mental health week – learning that we need to keep our minds healthy too.

Week 3

This week we have been learning some simple BSL (British Sign Language). The children have really enjoyed turning their voices off and learning these signs. We have learnt some of our feelings, family members, likes and dislikes and how to say simple phrases, only using our hands.

In writing we have been thinking about the similarities and difference of ourselves when we were a baby vs now. Lots of the children liked to think back and use their baby photo to help them remember what they looked like or what they were wearing.

Week 2

This week we have had some amazing creations by children in our class. They have been taking inspiration from pictures of skyscrapers printed out in the construction area. Ian from RS has talked to the children about living in Hong Kong and the buildings around him there.

We did some whole class learning in Maths thinking of the composition of teen numbers. We know that 14 is made up of 1 ten and 4 ones so we drew representations of this on big paper.

Summer 1 – Week 1

This week we have enjoyed being back with our friends and starting our new topic of ‘growing’. We have each made ‘a bean in a bag’ which we have stuck on our window and will watch them grow. We know that the bean seed needs water and sunlight in order to germinate (this is Jerone’s new favourite word)!! We will keep the paper towel wet and we have the sun shining through the window. We are hopefully shoots will begin to show soon.

We have also introduced the children to Rekenreks. We have been practicing getting our Rekenrek into the start position on the floor and have been noticing how many red and white counters there are. We have been practicing ‘pushing’ counters to the side and noting how many we have pushed.

Week 6

The last week of a term is always a busy one but it was lovely to see the children really noticing our environment – especially taking an interest in the litter around our school grounds.

We decided to act on this and went litter picking. We found so much litter but managed to bag it and bin it.

The children knew that litter is bad for the animals and the plants and took great pleasure using the litter pickers to remove it all from the hedges and borders!
